How Bubble Tea Ingredients Shortage in the US was interlinked with Global Supply Chain Crisis.
This Video is a wonderful example of how Bubble Tea Shop Owners experienced the Shortage of Bubble Tea Ingredients and how all that is linked to the Global Supply Chain Crisis.There are loop holes and vulnerabilities in the way today’s supply chain works and all that was exposed during the Pandemic.
Based on the above Video Report by Wendover Productions, On April 13, 2021, Boba Bliss, a small bubble tea shop in Dublin posted on FB that they were having hard time sourcing the ingredients.
The Same was posted by many Bubble Tea shops shortly after, across the country that they could not source the ingredients (from Taiwan) in quantities demanded despite no dramatic increase in demand.
It was more to do with what was happening in the waters off the Coast of LA. The average cost of a 20 Foot Shipping container had almost doubled from 1800 USD to 3500 USD due to shortage of Shipping Containers.
There is a regional shortage of shipping containers which is having global consequences. For every 100 containers imported into the US, only 40 were exported. So Shipping Containers stacked on the ports or places there were not needed and because they were not needed, they did not make it back to the place where they came from, like Asia. Ports of LA and Long Beach suffered from Capacity Crunch and did not even have time to justify loading ships with empty containers for return to Asia. Also there was a shortage of Truck Drivers due to COVID/Sickness/lockdown measures.
Conclusion:
So a shortage of shipping containers is causing the shortening of shipping capacity, which is worsened by a shortage of port capacity, which is worsening the shortage of shipping containers which itself is worsened by a shortage of truck drivers, So it is a vicious cycle that is only worsening and all of which caused shortage of bubble tea ingredients.
